MUMBAI: City bikers unanimously termed Tuesday’s Vikhroli incident ‘shocking’.

They complained that the traffic police often pick on them “for no reason”, demand fines or bribes from them and confiscate their licences.

“Several times we have come across instances where traffic cops make the life of a biker really hard,” said Usman Hashmi, 33, a resident of Pydhonie.

Pratik Jha, 24, raised a similar issue. “The incident that happened in Vikhroli has created an element of fear in my mind. How can a traffic cop throw a helmet to stop a biker,” asked Jha, who lives in Thakurdwar.

Some bikers said the police have made bribery a business.
