A sudden loud noise woke us up on Sunday. Our portion of the building collapsed and we came crashing down. Luckily, we fell on the less-affected side, said Bano.
A 27-year-old woman was rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment of head injuries after she bravely managed to come out with her 4-year-old son from the debris after a two-storey dilapidated building came crashing down in Bhiwandi on Sunday.
Afsana Bano resided on the first floor of Kabir building at Gaibi Nagar in Bhiwandi. Incessant rains on Sudany made the 35-year-old dilapidated structure to collapse. The residents did not vacate the rickety structure even after Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation served them notices twice.
"A sudden loud noise woke us up on Sunday. Our portion of the building collapsed and we came crashing down. Luckily, we fell on the less-affected side," said Bano.
"Soon, I caught hold of my son and crawled towards the street as debri kept falling on my head and legs. I screamed for help and I managed to protect my son and came out," added Bano.
"When I came to, I found myself in the hospital," said Bano.
