The arrested person has been identified as Aslam Imam Shaikh, a resident of BIT Chawl in Bhendi Bazaar area of South Mumbai. Shaikh works as a security guard in Mumbai.
The Matunga police on Friday arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly molesting a 43-year-old woman while she was traveling in a BEST bus at Maheshwari Udyan. Following the incident, the victim beat the commuter and handed him over to the police with the help of commuters.
The arrested person has been identified as Aslam Imam Shaikh, a resident of BIT Chawl in Bhendi Bazaar area of South Mumbai. Shaikh works as a security guard in Mumbai.
According to the police, the incident took place on Friday afternoon. The victim, a Chembur resident had boarded a BEST bus route number 93 from Chembur and was on her way to Shivaji Park in Dadar for some work. “Shaikh was seated on the seat behind the victim. When the bus reached Maheshwari Udyan, Shaikh allegedly touch the victim on her waist. The victim immediately raised an alarm and soon there was aaltercation between the two,” said an officer from Matunga police station.
He added that the victim along with the help of other commuters, brought Shaikh to Matunga police station where a case was registered against him under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), by evening and Shaikh was placed under arrest.
