MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) has approved a new fare slab on its buses.

In its meeting on Friday, the relevant committee approved of a proposal to introduce a new fare slab of Rs 3 for a distance of 2 km as compared to the existing basic fare of Rs 4 upto 3 km.

Also, the panel has agreed to slash fares for visually handicapped commuters to Re one from the existing Rs 2.

The proposal for the fare revision had been suggested in the BEST annual budget a few months ago.

The fare revisions will now be sent to the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) for approval.

The civic transport body operates nearly 4,000 buses ferrying lakhs of commuters in the city and suburbs.
