BEST buses may soon have global positioning system (GPS).

And this will help passengers know the exact time it would take to reach their destinations.

Dilip Patel, the new chairman of BEST committee, said, β€œDuring my foreign tour I found that almost every vehicle is connected via GPS.” β€œIf it is introduced on BEST it will help commuters  and the undertaking as tracking movement of buses would be easier,” he added.

The proposal could materialise if the BEST administration okayed it, he said. β€œI am yet to discuss the project with general manager Uttam Khobragade and other technicians. If I am able to convince them it will be implemented.”

And Patel was upbeat about finding sponsors. β€œWe will appoint a consultant and chalk out the feasibility of the project. I do not think introducing this technology would be expensive,” he said.
Khobragade, however, refused to comment on the matter. β€œI do not want to talk about it because Patel has announced it in the BEST committee meeting,” he said.

Metro: The operational rights of metro should be handed over to the BEST because it knows how to manage mass transport, Patel said. It would be economical for passengers too. Mass transport could improve only if there was coordination between road and rail travel, he said.
