Baramati MP to develop forts into tourist hot spots

Lok Sabha MP from Baramati, Supriya Sule, on Thursday said she would explore the possibility of harnessing the tourism potential in her constituency and would develop the forts of Sinhagad and Torna along with Shaniwarwada.

Sule was in the city for a meeting of the Pune Zilla Krishi Vikas Pratishthan, which organises competitions for agricultural students in the state. She informed media persons that despite having a rich heritage and legendary historic figures like Shivaji Maharaj, the true potential of
the glorious past was not being harnessed.

She said she had discussed the issue with experts including Abha Lamba, who have shown interest in taking up the task. Lamba has visited the two forts and was informed of the life and work of Chhatrapati Shivaji.

On the lines of the light and sound show at Shaniwarwada, a show would be set up at Sinhagad, which would bring alive the history and martyrdom of Shivaji Maharaj’s lieutenant, Tanaji Malusare. Another light and sound show will be prepared for Torna, the first fort that Shivaji won to start his campaign for self-rule.

Sule said she would discuss the matter with the Archaeological Survey of India for developing the forts as potential tourism destinations. She said she would involve the MLAs in her constituency to make the task earlier.
