APMC police arrest two for robbing employer of rupee 5L

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly running away with cash after withdrawing it from the company’s bank account on Thursday.

APMC police arrested them from their residences in Sion and Chembur respectively.

Abhijeet Durgakar, a senior employee of a company based in Mafco Market under APMC police station, registered a complaint on September 11 that two employees of the company fled with company’s cash.

According to police, Durgakar gave a bearer cheque worth Rs5 lakh to two employees to withdraw money from HDFC branch in sector 17 of Vashi. The cash was supposed to be distributed among employees as salary.

The employees have been identified as Pramod Baban Kadam, a Sion resident, and Pravin Kashinath Kamble, a resident of Vashi naka in Chembur. The police said that Durgakar got suspicious after the duo did not return after withdrawing money from the bank.

They left the office around 10.30am and did not return till afternoon.

“When Durgakar checked with the bank, he was shocked to learn that cash had already been withdrawn in the morning. He approached us and registered a complaint,” said police inspector Padwalkar from APMC police station.

The employees have been booked under section 408 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention) and will remain in police custody till Monday.

“Investigations are on to find out if they cheated other companies earlier,” Padwalkar added.
