MUMBAI
At a time when the country is reeling under the rising inflation rate because of declining rupee, about 280 students of senior secondary section of Apeejay School, Nerul, discussed the economic reforms.
They also compared the Indian economy with the US, Norway, China and Pakistan economy as part of CAUCUS-5, a project under the British Council ISA action plan. It was monitored by industry experts.
On August 16, students prepared a presentation and Rakesh Aggarwal, vice-president of Reliance India Ltd, and Sandeep Kapur, associate vice-president with Essar Group, supervised and provided additional inputs.
The agenda behind this project was to create an awareness among students about the economic reforms that have taken place in the US, Norway, China, Pakistan and India.
They were asked to compare the economic conditions of these countries with respect to the factors affecting their economic growth vis-à-vis economic environment, health sector (with respect to women), education, standard of living and global status of these countries.
“The comparative study of the status of women in India and Pakistan was taken up by class XII-B and graphical analysis was also presented,” said a faculty.
While a group of students of class XII-D came up with the concept of global competitive index to assess the position of the US vis-a-vis Indian economy, another group of students of classes XII-A and XII-C used dramatisations and role plays to represent their comparative studies.
The question of responsible citizenship deals with the exclusion of social and cultural prejudices. And this is what students of class XI-C tried to portray through their comparative studies on the economic conditions of India and the US.
While students of class XI-A, through their presentation, showed the faulty economic policies which led to the decline of Pakistan’s economy, students of class XI-B discussed the issues related to internationalism and the prospects of China and India emerging as the next super powers.
Class XI-D students laid emphasis on the health and education of Norway for their economic growth.
The session concluded with an opinion poll where principal Rakesh Joshi put some questions based on the future economic prospects of India vis-a-vis other economies discussed during the presentation.
The month-long event concluded on the International Literacy Day, September 11. The group leaders representing students sat with the eminent persons from the field of economics and drafted a resolution suggesting the policy guidelines for better economic growth. Students will also publish a newsletter ‘CAUCUS- 5’ regarding the ideal economic policies.
