Mumbai's international Queer film festival Kashish, which focuses on India this time, will close the festival with an internationally acclaimed Indian film. The film named Evening Shadows, is a feature film about a son coming out as gay to his mother in a small town of India. The film has already garnered a lot of attention and critical acclaim all over the world. It will be the closing film on Sunday May 27 at 9.30pm at the iconic Liberty Carnival Cinemas in Marine Lines.

The film festival is scheduled to be held between May 23-27, 2018 at South Mumbai's theatres – Liberty Cinema and Metro Inox. The festival will screen 140 films from 45 countries, including 33 LGBTQ films from India. Voted as one of the Top 5 LGBT Film Festival in the World, Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival is South Asia's biggest queer film festival and the only LGBT film festival in India to be held in a mainstream theatre. The 9th edition of the film festival will celebrate pride and the infinite diversities of families, communities, gender, sex, ethnicity and body types. The fight for equal rights and societal acceptance is also a fight against discrimination of any sort, and equal rights can only be achieved when all of us – LGBTIQ and Allies – come together with pride to celebrate being ourselves.

Since its World Premiere at the Mardi Gras Film Festival, Sydney in February, the film Evening Shadows has been screened at Bengaluru International Film Festival, Roze Filmdagen Amsterdam and Outfest Fusion, Los Angeles. The film also won the 'Free To be Me' award at Roze Filmdagen and was one of the strong runners up for Audience Awards at both Mardi Gras and Roze Filmdagen festivals.

Sridhar Rangayan, director of the film said, "This is homecoming for our film after its screenings across the world. We are hoping that the audiences in Mumbai will love the film and embrace its heartwarming story. We also hope it will awaken many more minds to greater acceptance and give out a string message about 'together with pride' which is this year's Kashish festival theme."

Mona Ambegaonkar plays the lead role of the mother Vasudha while actor Ananth Mahadevan plays the stern father Damodar in the film. The two young lead actors are Devansh Doshi and Arpit Chaudhary. Evening Shadows was given a UA certificate by the censor board. It is a crowdfunded film with more than 180 contributors across the world.
