According to a Times of India report, Thackeray arrived late for the event stating that he has been shuttling between hospital and home since last eight days because his son Amit Thackeray is hospitalised. The report also adds that his voice appeared to be mellow and he added that "such things cannot be kept under wraps".

While there have been rumours that Amit has been diagnosed with lung cancer, mother Sharmila Thackeray and Amit have denied the rumours. Speaking to My Medical Mantra, Amit accepted that he has been unwell but also went to add that he is suffering from minor illness and there isn't anything serious. Sharmila said that her son was actively campaigning for the upcoming BMC elections.
