Amboli police nab fifth Nigerian national involved in cocaine export racket

The Amboli Police have finally arrestesd one of the four Nigerian nationals, who were a part of the syndicate involved in exporting cocaine worth Rs 39 crore. The police have learnt that the arrested accused used to export the drug to South Africa.

Nonso Igboeje (35) was arrested from Colaba by police inspector Daya Nayak, Amboli Police Station. The police recovered 6 Nigerian passports and cash worth Rs 5,320 from him.

On Saturday night, a team from the Amboli Police Station arrested Navi Mumbai resident Niras Abuzik Okhowo (35), Nalasopara resident Simon Agobta (32), Bengaluru resident Micheal Sunday Hope (29), and Carle Pinto Iris (49), and seized 6.4 kg cocaine worth Rs 39 crore from them. All the accused except Iris, who is a Brazilian national, are Nigerian nationals.

On Saturday night, a team of Amboli police had arrested Navi Mumbai resident Niras Abuzik Okhowo (35), Nalasopara resident Simon Agobta (32), Bengaluru resident Micheal Sunday Hope (29) and Carle Pinto Iris (49) and had seized 6.4 kg cocaine worth Rs 39 crore from them. All the accused except Iris, who is a Brazilian national, are Nigerian nationals.

The accused had stuffed drugs into the crevice of rings of curtains.

According to additional commissioner of police, west region, Manoj Kumar Sharma, the police received specific information about delivery of cocaine by foreign nationals at Maurya Landmark area in Andheri (W).

On Saturday evening, a police team led by inspector Daya Nayak laid a trap at the said place and apprehended four foreigners who had arrived at the spot.

"We found cocaine from their possession. Okhowo informed us that more drugs are kept at his Koparkhairane residence. We have seized 6.40 kilograms of cocaine worth Rs 39 crore from the quartet. They used to conceal contraband in curtain rings. Preliminary probe has revealed that the said drugs was sourced from Afghanistan, and from Mumbai the accused were about to send the drug to South Africa, and from there to Europe," said a police source.

"Okhowo was earlier arrested in a similar case. We have seized a photocopy of bail application submitted in Special NDPS Court. Iris too was arrested in a drug-related offence three years ago. She was recently released from Byculla jail," the officer said.

"We are on the lookout for one Igwe, also a Nigerian national in the said case. He was part of the said syndicate. Our probe has revealed that the said group had earlier successfully managed to export 1.5 kg cocaine on two occasions each. The main suppliers used to financially help the families of the arrested peddlers in Nigeria," said a police officer.
