ALM implemented the concept by installing separate dustbins for wet and dry waste at garbage dumps, after several meetings with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials from the H/E ward, members of Santacruz and Vakola.

Sridharan Kumaraswamy, 52, a resident of Sundar Nagar, talking to iamin said, “Members of both Vakola and Kalina ALM have been holding presentations on garbage segregation, instead of waiting for the BMC to do so.”

BMC officials speaking to iamin said they are glad to assist the ALMs by providing the required dustbins. Dheeraj  Bangar, assistant engineer, solid waste management department, said, "Garbage segregation will certainly help residents in keeping the environment  clean."

Hoping that the waste segregation concept will help in tackling the problem of piling garbage on the streets, ALMs are also looking forward to another official meeting with BMC officials over the same. The ALM has proposed the installation of new dustbins in areas like Dutt Mandir Road, Gaondevi, Sundar Nagar, Nehru Road and Vakola Market in Santacruz, which will be discussed in the meeting with BMC officials.
