The Advanced Locality Management (ALM) of the city are baffled with the new diktat from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as the civic officials at the ward level have insisted on usage of only Marathi as a language for communication during their monthly meetings and also in their correspondence. ALMs have alleged that this is a way to deter residents group from complaining often.

In most of the areas, active resident groups are complaining in all the spoken languages in the city. However, when the ALM members were conveyed this diktat they have complained to Municipal Commissioner about the same.

ALM members feel that these were the systematic efforts on the part of the municipality to ensure that ALM members are upset and the meetings they call go for the toss so that our issues remain unresolved. ALM members from K – west claimed that the ward officers allow hawkers to attend the meetings.

However, civic officials claimed that the ALM members were reacting gingerly and taking the issue too far
