Born into a family that has married creativity and politics with great success, Aditya Thackeray has been exposed to artistic work and power from a very young age.

A cartoonist grandfather and a father who dabbles in wildlife photography, it was but natural for the 16-year-old to get his feet wet in a similarly creative art. Already interested in photography, reading and cricket, Aditya will no longer be identified as merely being the grandson of Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray, and the son of Uddhav Thackeray. From Monday, je is now identified as the author of a collection of poems in Marathi, Hindi as well as English.

My Thoughts in White and Black is Aditya’s first book and has been published by his grandfather, Bal Thackeray. The 77-page book has been divided into categories such as politics, British Raj & Independence, struggle of the proletariat, royalty and wars, art, spiritualism mysticism and prophecy.

Primarily in English, the book contains 11 poems in Hindi and three in Marathi, including Aamchi Mumbai (My Mumbai) and Khare Tare (Real Stars).

Adman Pritish Nandy has written the preface for the book where he says he likes the way Aditya explores the world around him and interprets it in the light of his own experience. Belonging to the fourth generation of Thackerays who have played an important role in Maharashtran politics, it is not surprising that Aditya often deals with political themes in his poetry.

Aditya has given all the credit for the publishing of his book to Bal Thackeray. He says his grandfather, “planted the seed of publishing the book in my mind and the book wouldn’t have been possible his love, encouragement, guidance and immense help and advice as an artist and a grandfather.”

Aditya’s book even has an ode to farmers who commit suicide due to bankruptcy, titled The Plight of the Farmer. In the past two years, Aditya has been very much active in politics, accompanying his father, Uddhav, in all political programmes. Do not be surprised if Aditya follows in his family’s footsteps and melds his artistic streak with political aspirations.
