Just a few days after the horrifying Sakinaka rape case in Maharashtra's Mumbai, the city's police has formed a special squad consisting of women officials to be known as 'Nirbhaya Squad', Mumbai police commissioner Hemant Nagrale said in a circular issued on Tuesday.
Every police station in Mumbai will consist of a 'Nirbhaya Squad', a special women's safety cell which will also consist of a woman assistant inspector or sub-inspector, a woman constable, a male constable, and a driver.
Mumbai Police also said that a review meeting regarding the safety of women will also take place in the first week of every month, chaired by the Additional Commissioner of Police of the Regional Division.
In the circular, Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale also assured that strict patrolling will take place in all the areas in the city where crimes against women are likely.
