The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will soon to issuing a notice to Sami for non-payment of over Rs3.40 lakh in property tax.
Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, who is under the Enforcement Directorate (ED)'s scanner over purchase of properties in Mumbai, has landed in another trouble for alleged non-payment of property tax.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will soon to issuing a notice to him for non-payment of over Rs3.40 lakh in property tax.
"We will soon issue a warning notice to him (Sami) for not paying property taxes of Rs3,40,540 for two of his eight flats and five parking spaces at Oberoi Sky Garden Cooperative Housing Society at Lokhandwala in suburban Andheri. The amount is pending since April 2009," said a civic official on condition of anonymity.
The ED has ordered confiscation of eight flats and five car parking spaces belonging to the singer for violation of Foreign Exchange Management Regulations. A fine of Rs20 lakh has been slapped by ED on Sami for acquiring assets without seeking permission of RBI as he is Pakistani national.
The properties located in Oberoi Sky Garden Housing Society were acquired by Sami in 2003.
"Since April 2009, we have not received the tax dues for two of his duplexes amounting to Rs2,10,714 and Rs1,29,826 respectively. We had sent him letters in this regard several times," the official said.
However, the singer's lawyer denied the BMC's claim.
"My client has no pending dues with the BMC. Also, we have not received any letter from the civic body regarding the payment of property tax," Vibhav Krishna said.
