One extra option on the form that an applicant had to fill for CIDCO's housing lottery, has helped the corporation earn a sum of Rs 250 crore. On October 2, CIDCO held the biggest housing lottery comprising of 14,838 homes. In the online application form CIDCO had decided to include an option, which stated that if the applicant isn't successful in the node where he or she applied for then, could be allotted in any other node where there are homes but no applications.

This helped CIDCO sell 1,210 homes for which the corproation hadn't received applications. Explaining the process, Dawre, Marketing Department, CIDCO said, "We introduced this option for the first time and this was never done in any other housing lottery. We provided applicants with an option while they filled the form. The option was that, if they click yes then they could be provided a home in any of the nodes where homes are more and applications, less. So, immediately after the lottery instead of holding another one for the vacant homes we allotted 1,210 homes to people who were unsuccessful in first attempt, but then had opted for being adjusted in other nodes."

So if an applicant had applied for a houses in Kharghar in the General Public category, under EWS and he didn't win the house in this category, and had opted for being adjusted, he waan provided a home in another node like Taloja, in the same category. Normally vacant homes are allotted to applicants in the next lottery.

The person could be moved or adjusted only in the category and income group he was in. So if a person had applied in LIG he would be adjusted in LIG category not in the EWS category.

Still even after this adjustments close to 1,100 homes remained vacant. These homes are mostly from the Journalist and CIDCO employees quota. A senior official said, "Of the 14,000 plus homes five per cent was reserved for Journalist, but also a condition was imposed that the Journalist should be from Navi Mumbai, which limited the scope to very few people. However, we are thinking of including journalists from Mumbai Metropolitan Region now so that these homes could be disposed, the decision will be taken by the MD of CIDCO."

Of the total 14,838 homes, 5,262 homes are being built for economy weaker section (EWS) while remaining 9,576 homes will be for the lower income group (LIG) category. The housing projects will come up in 11 locations in the 5 nodes namely Taloja, Kalamboli, Kharghar, Ghansoli and Dronagiri.

This was also the biggest lottery ever under the ambitious Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna. By December end CIDCO is planning to come up with another lottery of more than 25,000 homes.
