Accused were drug addicts, needed money to fuel their habit

The accused arrested by the Mumbai crime branch for plotting to kill a top Bollywood director/ producer, were heavily into drugs. Sources in the crime branch believe that their poor financial status and addiction to drugs, could be major reasons for them to be part of the crime.

According to the Mumbai crime branch, 12 of the 13 arrested were heavily addicted to drugs, and came from a poor family background. Crime branch officers stated that the accused had been drug users for a long time and were in need of money to fuel their addiction.

An officer privy to the probe informed: "All the accused were jobless and thus easily fell for the lucrative offer they got. Most of them have no criminal record, but because of their financial status, they took the supari and became part of the crime."
