Two days after licence inspector Sachin Sankhe from the BMC H-West ward, Bandra, was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of from a street food vendor, the officials conducted raids at the 44-year-old's residence and discovered that he has amassed considerable wealth. The ACB found Rs1.7 lakh in cash, 178 grams of gold worth Rs3.8 lakh, and property documents of three flats, apart from privately owned vehicles, bank account and insurance documents from the Sankhe's Mira Road residence."Apart from the documents related to the Mira Road residence, we also found documents related to a house he owned in Virar and another one he has booked in Borivli. We are yet to assess the current value of these properties as the first two were bought eight years ago for about Rs5 lakh each. The value of the the 900 sq ft Borivli property could be more than Rs50 lakh, and he has paid Rs21 lakh so far," said an ACB official.The officials have also recovered three cars including Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova and Maruti WagonR and a two-wheeler. "We have asked for loan documents related to the properties and cars. We will find out if they were bought legitimately. If he fails to produce proof and documents, we will book him under the disproportionate assets case," said Vasant Devarkar, additional DCP (ACB). Bank account and insurance policy documents were also recovered from the house.Sankhe has been in service for the last 20 years. His wife is a BMC school teacher and his children are school students.

"We have not received any other bribery complaints against him. Investigations are on to find out how he managed to own properties, cars and cash," added Devarkar.

Sankhe was arrested by the ACB on Monday while accepting Rs40,000 as bribe from a snacks seller for letting him to continue operating in Santacruz (West) and for not cancelling his licence.
