Abu Salem, serving life term in jail,denied parole to get married

Gangster Abu Salem's plea for 45 days' parole to get married for a second time was rejected by the authorities on Saturday morning. Salem's plea was rejected by the Konkan Divisional Commissioner.

Salem, who is currently serving a life sentence for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, had written to the jail authorities on February 16, seeking parole to marry Mumbai-based Sayed Bahar Kausar alias Heena, a Mumbra resident.

The Thane commissionerate of police conducted a detailed enquiry and submitted a negative report to the parole sanctioning authority. Jagdish Patil, Konkan Divisional Commissioner, said, "We have received a report from the police department, advising us not to sanction parole. The parole application has been rejected."

Salem, who is lodged inside the Taloja Prison at Navi Mumbai after being convicted in the 1993 blast case had moved the application a month ago.

In his application, Salem had given an assurance that he would reside at Mumbra after his marriage during the parole tenure. Mohammed Abdul Memon and Rafique Sayyed were two guarantors for Salem.

The Mumbra police recorded the statements of Heena and the two guarantors and submitted a negative report. Heena, a Mumbra resident was seen with Salem on train while travelling for court hearings from Mumbai to Lucknow in 2014.
