Around 80 students of Dahisar's Universal High School face expulsion from the school for non-payment of fees for the academic year 2017-18.
Parents were recently sent letters stating, "The school through its previous communications has repeatedly awarded you more than a reasonable opportunity to pay the required fees and regularise your default. Unfortunately, you have chosen to not pay heed to the numerous requests that have been made by the school... Please note that the school leaving certificate shall be ready by May 29, 2017 and you may collect the same... The school will now be filling up the vacancies with immediate effect by granting admissions to other eligible and deserving students..."
Parents had earlier opposed the close to 12 per cent hike by the school alleging that the institute 'had not provided facilities as promised and had not consented the parents before deciding on the hike'. A complaint with this effect was registered with the state education department in March 2017, but the decision is still pending. As a result, some parents paid fees as per the old fee structure while others did not. The school has issued expulsion notices to these students citing non-payment of fees.
