MUMBAI
After much looking around, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has managed to field candidates in all the six constituencies. The party had before that named only four candidates, three of which were announced early.
Names of Phiroze Palkhivala, lawyer and nephew of late Nani Palkhivala, and Sundar Balakrishnan, an AAP volunteer who has worked in the corporate world, in the party's tenth list gave citizens an additional choice.
The last three candidates of the party, however, have been announced after much delay by the party that has always looked to "sweep the city" in the Lok Sabha election.
While Meera Sanyal from Mumbai South constituency, Mayank Gandhi from Mumbai North-West and Medha Patkar from Mumbai North-East were announced in the first list, other names have taken a while to be called out. Bharat Jain, an IIM pass out, will be contesting in Mumbai North constituency against Congress's Sanjay Nirupam and BJP's Gopal Shetty.
Palkhivala will be contesting against Piya Dutt, while Balakrishnan will be contesting agaist Eknath Gaikwad and Rahul Shewale of the Shiv Sena and MNS's Rajan Shirodkar. Balakrishnan, who has been associated with the AAP since the India Against Corruption movement, considers that his work in areas of Mankhurd, Shivaji Nagar and Chembur will help him during the elections.
