An 85-year-old man drowned in a pond at Bonkode village in Koparkhairane on Sunday night. His body was fished out of the water on Monday morning.

According to the police, Satu Tukaram Yewale stayed with his family at Dharma Siddhi apartment in sector 12. He went out for a walk to the area of Bonkode pond on Sunday night after having dinner, but did not return home that night. A few locals spotted his body floating on water on Monday morning and informed the police about it.

"Prima facie it appeared that the victim had slipped into the pond while he was walking around. He was rushed to NMMC hospital in Vashi, where he was declared dead on arrival. After the post-mortem was conducted in the hospital, his body was delivered to his family," a police officer from Koparkhairane police station said.

The post-mortem reports are yet to come. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of accidental death.
