8 students, 2 teachers injured in bus mishap

Eight students and two teachers of Gundecha Education Academy, Kandivli were injured on Tuesday around 2pm after the driver of the bus (MH04-G-6639) they were travelling in lost control and the bus went off the road and met with an accident. There were 53 students and two teachers in the bus. They were returning from a three-day trip to Igatpuri in Masna. The accident occurred after the bus had crossed Kasara ghat.

The driver, Abdul Khan, who stays in Kandivli near the school, fled from the spot after the mishap. The bus tyre had burst. It was passersby and locals along with Kasara police who pulled out the children and teachers from the bus.

The injured students and teachers were rushed to hospitals in Kalyan and Shahpur. As their injuries were minor in nature, the students were given first aid and discharged. The two teachers, Priyanka Tiwari and Susanne, had injuries on their nose and mouth. They were later transferred to a private hospital.

Ajay Vasare, police inspector, Kasara police station, said: "It was after the bus had crossed the ghat that the driver lost control and the bus met with an accident. Its front tyre had burst. We are investigating whether the tyre burst before or after the accident. The driver is absconding. He will be booked under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of Motor Vehicle Act and section 184 of Indian Penal Code."

DK Ghadi, manager, Gundecha Education Academy, said: "The students are from standard V to X. They had gone on a trip on December 28 to Igatpuri. On their way back, the bus met with an accident after it had crossed Kasara ghat. The children are fine. The teachers had head injuries and have been hospitalised."
