The police in Kolhapur have confiscated 690kg of ammonium nitrate.
The police in Kolhapur have confiscated 690kg of ammonium nitrate. They have arrested two people who were allegedly stocking and illegally transporting the explosive material in Shirol taluka of Kolhapur district.
Superintendent of police Yashasvi Yadav said that the has been used to make bombs.
He said the chemical is meant to be used as a fertiliser but is illegally used to make explosives for quarrying and mining.
Sandeep Patil was arrested in Shirol while transporting 90kg of the material with electronic detonators in an Indigo car.
Following Sandeep’s arrest, the police nabbed Dilip Bhau Kumbhar in Walva who had supplied the explosives to Sandeep.
Kumbhar’s arrest yielded a total 600 kg of ammonium nitrate hidden in
a room.
The total cost of the seized material is around Rs27,000. A total of 50
detonators were also recovered from the arrested suspects.
