The state home department has decided to beef up the Pune police force with 606 more police personnel.

The addition will include one deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), two assistant Commissioners of police (ACP) and 14 inspectors.

The information published in the state home department’s June 15 gazette stated that the city police commissonerate would get a new complement of one DCP, one ACP and five police sub inspectors for the foreign registration office (FRO).

The city traffic police will get one ACP, four police inspectors and four police sub inspectors.

Moreover, 219 police personnel have been earmarked for the new police stations in Bibvewadi and MIDC Bhosari.

These stations would also get two police inspectors and five sub inspectors each.

A police officer attached to the FRO department told DNA on condition of anonymity that the new force would help tackle their workload considering the large number of foreign students and foreign tourists in the city, who need to register at the FRO office.

The gazette stated that two more outpost chowkies would be added to the Pune rural police at MIDC Ranjangaon under the Shirur police and Chikhalgaon under the Khed police station.

The gazette further stated that the state home department had decided to increase force across the state considering the increasing population of the state, crime rate and development of industrial areas.
