Heavy rain lashed the city on Sunday evening leading to water logging at several places. At least five people, including three children, were injured in rain-related incidents. While three children were injured after lightning struck them in Kurla (West), two people were injured in a landslide triggered by the heavy rain in Azad Nagar area of Ghatkopar.  All the five injured have been hospitalised.

Traffic flow was disrupted at certain points where fallen trees blocked the roads.
According to the disaster management cell of the BMC, the city received 13 mm, the western suburbs 24 mm and eastern suburbs 47 mm of rainfall till 9pm.

Water logging was reported at chronic spots such as Kala Chowkie and Byculla and some parts of the the city and suburbs, said an official from the civic cell. He added that cases of tree-fall were also reported in some parts of the city and suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials have attributed the heavy rainfall to the favourable weather conditions.

“The formation of low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has resulted in heavy rainfall in the city and this is likely to continue,” said an IMD official.  The IMD has predicted rains accompanied by thundershowers in parts of the city and suburbs in the next 48 hours. The services on the Central and Harbour lines were affected and trains were running behind schedule. Rains hit the railway signals at Vikhroli, Vidyavihar, Mulund, Kalva, Bhandup, Badlapur, Vasind and Asangon.
