The 40th edition of Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan will have an impressive line-up of doyens from the world of Hindustani classical music. The three-day festival which kicks off on December 1, 2016, will see Begum Parveen Sultana, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt Nayan Ghosh, Pt Satish Vyas, Kaushiki Chakraborty and Atulkumar Upadhyay perform.

Well-known santoor exponent and secretary, Maharashtra Lalit Kala Nidhi, Pt Satish Vyas told DNA: “My father Pandit CR Vyas started the Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan in 1977 under the aegis of the charitable trust Maharashtra Lalit Kala Nidhi (MLKN). This annual festival commemorates the late Agra gharana legend, Jagannath Buwa Purohit. Buwa was not only a great performer but was also an acclaimed guru and composer who composed several ragas, bandishes under the pseudonym Gunidas; from where the festival draws its name.”

On December 1, the Sammelan will commence with a sitar performance of Pt Nayan Ghosh with Yogesh Shamsi on tabla. This will be followed by a vocal performance by Kaushiki Chakraborty, with Ojas Adhiya on tabla and Ajay Joglekar on harmonium.

On Friday, December 2, the evening will begin with a violin recital by Atulkumar Upadhyay with Mukesh Jadhav on tabla, following which audiences will be treated to the melodious and extremely rich voice of Begum Parveen Sultana with Mukundraj Deo on tabla and Shrinivas Acharya on harmonium.

On Saturday, December 3, the third day of the Sammelan will begin with the santoor recital of by Pt Satish Vyas who will be accompanied on tabla by Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari. The 40th Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan will conclude with the extremely talented and sought after vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan with Subhankar Banerjee on tabla and Ajay Joglekar on harmonium.
