The Jain community will soon see a mega event of sorts. It will see 40 diksharthis taking diksha at a grand event in Chikoowadi Ground in Borivali on March 13. Those taking diksha will be residents of Mumbai and Gujarat.

The celebrations, that will go for five days from March 9 to 13, will see 500 Jain sadhus and sadhvis, and large number of people attend the event. Those taking diksha will be from 12 to 66 years old. A person who takes diksha renounces worldly pleasures and lives an ascetic life.

The diksha will be taken under Jainacharya Pujya Jinchandrasuriswarji Maharaja and his disciple Jainacharya Pujya Yogtilaksuriswarji Maharaja. In Jainism, both are known as ‘Mahanayak of Diksha’.

Four years ago, they had helped 45 people take diksha in Surat and thereafter 36, 26 and now 40 diksharthis will be taking diksha. A unique ‘nagari’, spread over 3.5 lakh square feet, will be built with a ‘diksha mandap’ (where monkhood is taken), unique ‘jinalaya’ (prayer hall), ‘bal sanskar vatika’ (where children are taught), and various exhibitions, as well as creations depicting ‘tortures of hell’ will be showcased.

Jainacharya Pujya Yogtilaksuriswarji Maharaja was a chartered accountant before he took to an ascetic life. Hiteshhbhai Mota, Shashanratna and Adhyaksh of Aadhyatmic Lagnotsav Samiti, stated that there is a feeling of euphoria related to the Samuhik Diksha not only in Jain Shashan but also with Maharashtra Chief Minister, Education Minister, Mahanagarpalika and entire people of Mumbai. He added that thousands of eyes have been eagerly waiting to witness the Diksha Mahotsav and that a grand procession was held in Mulund on January 13 for the diksharthis.

After taking the diksha, the diksharthis will have to denounce all relationship with their family and closed ones. They will have to give up all their belongings and will live with their teacher in the ‘derasar’ (Jain temple) along with other diksharthis.
