Four police constables of Wadala TT police station have been suspended from service after a suspect in the kidnapping and rape case of a minor escaped from their custody while in Uttar Pradesh. The team of constables were bringing the suspect from Varanasi to Mumbai, but he managed to give them the slip.

According to sources in the dept, on March 19, four police constables of Wadala TT police station—Suresh Kavle, Sandeep Chonde, Gerson Pinto and Sanjay Jadhav—were sent to Baharia in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh to arrest one Rahul Sharma, alias Guddu Kumar, accused of kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

Kavle and his team travelled in a bus with Sharma from Allahabad to Varanasi. After getting down at Varanasi, constables Jadhav and Pinto went to the railway station to book tickets to Mumbai. Sharma remained in the custody of Chonde and Kavle.

"Sharma told the two policemen to loosen his handcuff, then pushed the two aside and fled the spot. The four have been suspended for negligence, pending primary departmental inquiry," said a police officer.
