33-year-old woman raped by friend in Juhu hotel

A 33-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by her friend in a five-star hotel in Juhu in November last year on the behest of her husband because he wanted a divorce.

The victim, who is a resident of Charni Road, first approached the VP Road police station and reported the case. The VP Road police registered the case and transferred it to the Juhu police station since the five-star hotel, where the offence took place falls under their jurisdiction.

According to the police, the victim got married in 2004, to a south Mumbai-based businessman. In 2008, the couple separated. "In 2012, she registered a case of dowry harassment against her husband and nine other people," a police officer said.

The victim in her complaint has alleged that a few days ago, her husband threatened her that if she did not consent to unconditional divorce then he will release a video clip in which she is reportedly in a compromising position with a friend.

The victim told the police that in November last year, she was called to a five star hotel for a cup of coffee by a friend.

The friend added some sedatives to the coffee and took her to a room. In the room, he allegedly raped her.

"The victim has said that the friend along with an accomplice video-taped the whole incident and also took some questionable photographs and handed over the videos and photos to her estranged husband," senior a police inspector, Suresh Kilje of VP Road station said.

The victim said that her husband had set-up the whole thing to malign her and seek divorce from her.

Senior police inspector Rajendra Chavan said, "We have checked entry records of the hotel and found that the accused had visited the hotel along with the victim on November 23, last year.

We are verifying the facts and we will take action accordingly."
