Maharashtra state government admitted that 33 developers in the city cheated Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) of 14,063.94 square metre area that was expected to be submitted to the authority.

The government has initiated action against the developers, who had undertaken the development of the cessed buildings under 33(7) of the development control rule.

In a written reply chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said that the first information report has been lodged against the errant builders.

The letter added that the economic offence wing of the Mumbai police has started investigating the case. Most of the developers are from South and Central Mumbai.
