30-year-old woman jumps to death

A 30-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of her 14-storey building in Borivli (West) on Thursday.

Anita Jain was a house maker and lived with her in-laws, husband Hitendra, six-year-old daughter Daksha and two-year-old son Vansh on the third floor of Blue Bell Tower at Royal Complex. Hitendra runs a hardware shop in Borivli (West).

Anita has not left a suicide note and her parents told the police that they do not suspect any foul play and would not lodged a complaint against her in-laws and husband.

“The incident took place around 9.30pm after Anita had her dinner with her husband and children. She handed Vansh to her husband and told him to attend Ganpati arti in the building. She said she would join them in a few minutes,” said a police officer.

She went to the terrace of the 14-floor building and allegedly jumped from there. "She fell a few metres away from the Ganpati pandal where the residents were attending the aarti,” said Ravi Adane, police inspector.

Relatives and friends gathered in the building for condolence meeting on Friday. “The family is from Rajasthan and they had planned to go to their native place this Sunday. Anita was happy and she was shopping for her parents," said one of her relatives, refusing to be named.

“Anita's parents told the police that they would not lodge any complaint. Anita was happy with her in-laws and husband,” said Adane.

A case of accidental death has been registered.  “Anita’s death is a mystery if she was happy with her in-laws. We have not found any suicide note,” said a police officer of Borivli police station.
