The DB Marg police foiled a dacoity attempt at a diamond merchant’s office at Pachratna building at Opera House on Friday and arresting three robbers. However, their of six associates managed to escape.

“Pawan Patil, 21, Prakash Pawar, 24, and Kantilal Chouhan, 22, all residents of Bhayander, were arrested. A country-made katta, a chopper, a long knife, hand gloves, money caps, rope and adhesive tapes — all concealed in a leather bag — were recovered,” said Ajit Surve, senior police inspector. He added that they were remanded in police custody till March 1 by the Holiday court on Saturday.

Chauhan worked with one of the diamond merchants at Opera House for the last ten days. He passed on information to the gang.

The police received information that a gang would commit dacoity at diamond merchant’s office at Panchratna building in Opera House and loot diamonds worth Rs50 lakh.

The police intensified the patrolling around Panchratna building and noticed a gang of nine people entering it.

The police chased them and nabbed three of them.
