The incident took place at Waghbill village in Kasarwadavli, Thane on April 22 around 1am, when the victim, Gangaram Ramchandra Shinge, had an argument with his son over property. The accused, Akash Gangaram Shinge, took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed his father five times in the chest and two times on his hands.

The 52-year-old died at the spot and the shocked family members called up their neighbours and took the body to Thane civil hospital. Later, they informed the Kasarwadavli police station.

The police has lodged a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

One of Gangaram's relatives said, "The victim's elder son, Akash, was squabbling over property issues. He wanted a major part in the property. He was unemployed, and every other day, they could be heard fighting. We intervened to make the elder son understand, but all in vain."

The younger son, Mashal, 24, who lodged the police complaint, said, "It was late at night when he (Akash) turned violent as we told him we would settle the property matter later. He started stabbing my father, I intervened but he shoved me off and stabbed my father. My mother started crying and soon, my father fell to the ground."

The neighbours heard their cries and rushed to find the victim lying in a pool of blood. They informed the police and took the body to Thane civil hospital.

An officer from Kasarwadavli police station said, "After we got to know about the murder, we rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. He will be produced in court. He killed his own father over property issues. He wanted a bigger share and stay away from his family. We have taken the victim's younger son's and wife's statements, as they witnessed the incident."
