Twenty-eight contract labourers have been arrested by the RCF police for allegedly rioting and damaging public property at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) refinery in Mahul-Chembur, following a skirmish with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans on Sunday morning.According to senior inspector of RCF police station, Dilip Raut, "When CISF jawans deployed at the east gate checked the papers of a group of labourers, they found that the men were late for work. As they sought an explanation from the workers, the latter got upset and started arguing with the security personnel."The altercation took a new turn when the labourers started pelting stones and vandalising the properties. The police were then informed and 28 of them labourers were taken into custody, said Raut.The contract workers have been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code for rioting, unlawful assembly and assaulting an on-duty government servant. They would be produced in a court on Monday, said the police.
