26-year-old jumps to death from 13th floor in front of mother

A 26-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide after he jumped from the 13th floor of a building in Masjid Bunder, Pydhonie, on Monday afternoon. The victim jumped in front of his mother and other relatives, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Zaniul Abuddin Kotwala, a resident of Rafai Tower behind Zakeria Masjid.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 1.45pm, when Kotwala jumped from the common passage of the floor. Public gathered at the spot rushed him to JJ hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.

"Kotwala was mentally disturbed and was undergoing medical treatment since last three months. On Monday, his parents took him to Mira Datar dargah to seek blessings for him, his health and speedy recovery from religious leaders. After they returned home and stepped out of the lift on the 13th floor, Kotwala jumped in front of his mother, aunt and uncle," said senior inspector Sunil Kavlekar of Pydhonie police station, adding that prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide.
