A total of 25,621 cases of power thefts worth Rs9.23 crore were detected in the state by a one-month-long special drive of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), said MSEDCL managing director Ajay Bhushan Pandey on Friday.

While FIRs were lodged in 2,232 cases, a total of Rs2.94 crore was recovered in 2,052 cases as dues.

Cameras and video clippings were used to record the power thefts. Raids were conducted in areas where distribution losses crossed 30 per cent. People’s representatives, local administration and police cooperated for the drive, added Pandey.

A team of 50 officials and employees was formed to conduct raids in the area where power losses were the highest.
