As many as 25 debt ridden and drought hit farmers have committed suicide in March in the Vidarbha region, the Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) said today."25 farmers have committed suicide owing to debt-trap and prevailing drought in Vidarbha," VJAS president Kishor Tiwarisaid.

Out of the 25 deceased, six farmers have committed suicide in the last two days itself, he said.Tiwari said the Central and State governments should take measures so that the situation could be prevented from gettingout of control.Meanwhile, Yavatmal district collector Sanjay Deshmukh expressed helplessness in containing the suicide spree.The situation is alarming. Despite all efforts we have been unable to contain the suicides, he said. 

Suicide is not a solution to the crisis and NGOs and other organisations should create mass awareness against the suicide spree, he added.
