A 20-year-old biker died after being rammed from behind by a BEST bus on Tuesday afternoon. The driver of the bus has been arrested for causing death due to negligence under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The incident took place near Bandra Talao around 12:30pm. The deceased, Arafat Qureshi, was riding his Pulsar towards Link Road. According to Bandra police, the BEST bus too was moving in the same direction.

An officer in Bandra police station said: "Qureshi was on his bike and is believed to have been speeding. He overtook a rickshaw and was trying to overtake the bus as well. However, in the process, he lost balance and the bus rammed into him from behind."

Qureshi fell off the bike, and though passersby rushed him to the nearby Bhabha Hospital, he was declared 'dead before admission' due to severe head injuries.

The driver, Santosh Badav, 38, was immediately arrested by the Bandra police. Qureshi worked a tailor and lived in Bandra West with his family.
