2 women held by Agripada Police for kidnapping and selling minor at Hyderabad

The Agripada Police have arrested two women from Pune and Hyderabad respective for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old minor girl and selling her to someone in Hyderabad.

According to the police, the accused women have been identified as Sakina Umar (29), who is a Pune resident and had kidnapped the minor and Fatima Begum Ali Bin Umar (34), who purchased the minor in Hyderabad. On December 16, the complainant, who works as a house help in Byculla area, had gone for work. As per routine, the woman's three-year-old daughter was accompanying her. When the woman came to greet her sister outside Byculla railway station compound, she left her daughter playing at a nearby area. However, 15 minutes later, the woman couldn't find her daughter anywhere and approached the Agripada Police to register a kidnapping case against unknown persons.

The police while inquiring the matter found a CCTV footage which shows the women abducting her. They collected CCTV footage from railway stations like Byculla, Kalyan and Pune. Based on technical evidence accessed from the Pune Railway Station, the police learnt that the minor girl was brought to Pune and later sold to a Hyderabad-based woman. Acting on this tip-off, a police team was dispatched to Hyderabad, where Fatima Umar was placed under arrest and the minor girl was rescued.

Further investigation revealed that the minor was sold to her by her sister-in-law, who stays in Pune. The police then arrested Sakina Umar from Pune, who confessed to selling the minor to her sister-in-law as the latter was childless. The minor was sold for a nominal price of Rs 2,000, the police said.

"The two women were related and a business deal was struck between the duo for Rs 2,000. The two accused will be interrogated in front of one another to fetch more details of the crime. The minor girl was rescued from Hyderabad and handed over to her parents safely." the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 3, Abhinash Kumar said.

The Agripada Police have booked the accused duo under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to kidnapping (section 363) and common intention (section 34).
