2 University of Pune staffers in custody

Two University of Pune (UoP) employees on Friday were remanded in police custody for four days till December 19 for alleged involvement in tampering with the university’s ledger records for preparing fake passing certificates and degree certificates for three Iranian students.

The arrested employees were identified as Achyut Shamrao Vaidya (43), head clerk of the pharmacy department and Yogesh Balasaheb Kumbhar (21) of the same department.

The Iranian students were identified as Shahbazi Avarchand Elham Belmand, Naziepur Magsaud Insaf and Babajhed Rohilla Solimon. They were studying in Allana College of Pharmacy and Sinhgad College of Pharmacy. They have been declared as absconding.

Two women thieves arrested
The anti-vehicle theft cell of Pune police arrested two women, who were allegedly involved in bag lifting and stealing valuables of women passengers on PMPML buses. The suspects have been identified as Rajiya Moin Kureshi alias Vimal Abasaheb Misal, a resident of Khandawenagar in Lohegaon and Dilshan Salim Shaikh of Hadapsar.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team laid a trap at Swargate and arrested the suspects and recovered gold ornaments and cash valued at Rs2.85 lakh.Motorcycle thieves in police net

The Bhosari police arrested four men for allegedly stealing motorcycles.  Three more suspects were held for receiving stolen motorcycles. Thirteen bikes were recovered from their possession.

The suspects have been identified as Madhav Baburav Pawar (22), Bapurao Shankar Wagmode (23) and Sainath alias Mahadev Suryabhan Aalkute, all residents of Bhosari and Dhadi alias Lakhan alias Rathod.

Those held for receiving stolen bikes are Sharad Haribhau Zawane (26), Kishor Devidas Sarode and Bhanudas Dingamber Ukirde, all residents of Ahmednagar.

The police said the suspects worked with a private company in Bhosari. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by assistant police inspector Prabhakar Pawar laid a trap in Bhosari and arrested the suspects.

Burglars flee with gold ornaments of Rs17 lakh
Some burglars broke into a jewellery shop and fled with gold ornaments valued at Rs17 lakh early on Friday at Narhe-Wadgaon Khurd area. A complaint was lodged by the owner of the shop, Balkrishna Shankar Mahamuni (37), a resident of Vishrantwadi.

The police said the complainant owns a jewllery shop, Krishna Jewellers on Navele Hospital Road in Narhe. The burglars broke open the main shutter of the shop with the help of a crowbar and a cutter between 2.30 am and 4 am and made away with the gold and silver ornaments. The incident came to light when the complainant came to open the shop in the morning and found the shop burgled.

Assistant police inspector Namdev Kauthale said no closed-circuit television cameras were installed in the shop.
