2 injured in Mumbai after bus loses control

A biker and the pillion rider were seriously injured when an MSRTC bus driver lost control of the vehicle, rammed into moving cars and a bike and hit theroad divider on Dr Ambedkar Road at Sion on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 9.30am, just 300m away from the Sion police station. The Parel depot’s bus left Dadar for Panvel, carrying five to six passengers.

When the bus reached below the King’s Circle bridge, the bus driver Milind Jadhav lost control over the wheel and rammed into two cars - a Maruti Esteem and a Ford -- and then knocked down Unicorn Honda motorcycle going towards Sion.

The rider and the pillion driver were thrown from the bike on to the footpath.

The bus hit road divider before coming to a halt. The bike was crushed under the bus. The bus driver immediately jumped from the bus and went to Matunga traffic police office and told them about the accident.

Vishal Gantra, 25, who was riding the bike and his pillion Karam Kataria, 26, were admitted to Sion hospital with serious injuries.
Both are residents of Azad Nagar at Sewri and are into stock broking.

“The bus driver Milind Jadhav, 42, was arrested,” said sub-inspector Madhukar Chavan of Sion police station. He will be produced in the metropolitan magistrate’s court on Thursday.
Chavan said those travelling in both the cars were safe but the cars were damaged.
