A 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his residence in the Malwani area of Malad (West). The police suspect that the boy, a druggie, was frustrated and took the extreme step on Tuesday night as he was unable to find drugs in the neighbourhood.

The deceased, Eejaz Bidiwala, a student, lived at Gate number 8 with his parents.

Prakash Patil, senior PI of Malwani police, said, "We are not sure about the cause. According to his parents, Eejaz was frustrated over the last few days and they believe that he took such a step because of unavailability of drugs in the neighbourhood." the officer added that the deceased used to consume charas and ganja. The police suspect that he was also into Mephedrone (M-Cat) and due to its unavailability, he was frustrated.

"We had carried out massive crackdowns in the area in recent times, especially with respect to Mephedrone. We had arrested several peddlers and perhaps because of this he could not find any sellers in the area," added a police officer. The Malwani police have registered a case of accidental death and are questioning the family for further details.
