A total of 156 men have been arrested in the last four days.
“The RPF began a special drive against men travelling in ladies compartments between Churchgate and Virar stations on December 20. We arrested 73 men on the first day,” said Rajendra Rupnawar, senior divisional security commissioner of RPF, Western Railway.
He added that they were booked under section 162 (any male entering the ladies compartment unauthorised shall be fined up to Rs500) of the Indian Railway Act. Forty-seven men were arrested on December 21 and 23 on December 22.
The RPF has arrested 5,465 this year till November 30 for travelling in the ladies compartment as against 3,544 in the previous year.
Taking cognisance of the rising cases of robbery and for the security of commuters, the RPF decided to intensify its drive against men entering the ladies compartment. The drive will continue for a month to deter men from entering the ladies compartment.
