The new train will start its run in the new year.
As a New Year's gift, Western Railway is set to unveil new and improved AC locals for the Mumbaikars. First AC local train celebrated its first anniversary on December 25. It runs from Churchgate to Borivali and Virar. Sources also said that in the last one year 40.43 lakh passengers travelled in the AC local that generated a revenue of Rs 16.65 crore.
After the delay caused by solar panel fittings, the new train will start the commute in the new year.
Here's a look at its new features.
1. GPS Trackers
The new features of the new train include GPS and talkback system.
2. Connected coaches
For the first time, passages have been made to connect two coaches. Passengers can roam from one end to the other if the crowd allows so.
3. Weekends are open for business
With two trains on the track, Western Railway is contemplating continuing the service on the weekends. One on track, other in maintenance shed.
4. The technicalities
Each coach of the latest AC local train will fit a 30-ton air-conditioned system. This train will be under the electrical equipment rack.
5. Relation with Train 18
The design and feature of the latest AC local train are the same as that of Train-18, which is India's first indigenous engine train.
