'Cash' film review

Armaan Gulati (Amol Parsashar) in the Disney+ Hotstar original film Cash, set in November 2016 when demonetisation struck India, is planning to launder black money and earn crores himself. His entrepreneurial methods soon turn into nightmares for him when his crazy ideas start failing subsequently.

Directed by Rishabh Seth and starring Amol Parashar, Kavin Dave, Gulshan Grover, Swanand Kirkire, Smiriti Kalra, and Pawan Chopra, Cash is a smartly written comic caper, full of twists, surprises, and nuanced performances that will keep you glued to the screens till the end.

Down with luck, Armaan, who calls himself the paidaishi CEO, is a typical middle-class boy. He wants to make it big in life through his convoluted business schemes but hasn't found success yet. He finds a golden opportunity during demonetisation. Along with his girlfriend Neha (Smriti Kalra) - a crooked real estate agent and his best friend Vivek Sodani aka Soda (Kavin Dave) - his partner-in-crime, Armaan takes on an impossible task to launder 5 crores of “dirty” money in less than 52 days before the banks stop accepting old notes.

But soon, Armaan's plans fall flat on his face when a local politician Gautam Acharya (Gulshan Grover) enters his life. Amidst this wild ride lies a compulsively punctual dabbawala-turned-cop, who wants to reach his target of seizing 100 crores black money. In this high-stakes struggle, will Armaan, Soda, and Neha, succeed in converting the banned currency or end up behind bars?

The film is a solid entertainer and has all the makings of a hit in making.  The fast-paced narrative works hugely in its favour. Amol Parashar gives a commendable performance and Swanand Kirkire, the famous Bollywood lyricist, compliments him well with a restrained act.

Rishabh Seth makes his directorial debut with the film, and he has crafted a unique tale with an interesting set of characters. The film is co-written by Aarsh Vora and Rishabh Seth. The film is produced by Vishesh Bhatt, Navey Mittar, and Sakshi Bhatt.

The film streams on Disney+Hotstar from 19th November.
