App-based taxi service Uber may be slated to launch its restaurant aggregator on-demand food ordering and delivery platform UberEATS on May 2.

Uber, in an e-mailed statement, asked the recipients of the mail to save the date for May 2, 2017, as "Something Uber Cool is on its way!"

The message is printed on a cloche, the kitchenware used to cover food in upscale restaurants and hotels, which is shown carried by a server's hand.

A recent Economic Times report had said that Uber was likely to launch the UberEATS service in India in the second quarter of the year.

It also said that UberEATS would be a separate platform from the the cab-hailing app and will have a separate management team too.

According to the report, "UberEATS has been hiring city general managers, city-level restaurant operations managers and branding and sales.

Currently, according to the UberEATS page, the food delivery service is operational in 74 cities in the world.

Earlier this year, UberEATS made two Google Docs available - one for those interested in being a delivery partner with UberEATS and the other, for restaurants to partner with the service provider. In the two Google Docs, the queries are for Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai. There is a provision to specify any other city too. According to this, it may be safe to assume that the services may go live first in these six cities.

Uber's platform will go up against Swiggy and Zomato.
