We are all set for the action to begin! Unlike the last ODI here, there seems to be no problem with the floodlight at the moment as the South African players make their way out to the middle. They are followed by the Lankan openers, Niroshan Dickwella and Avishka Fernando. Dale Steyn to start the proceedings for the hosts. Here we go...
0.1 : D Steyn to N Dickwella, Steyn kicks things off with a good length delivery just outside off. There's some decent shape on it as it moves away, Dickwella defends it off the outer half towards cover-point.
0.2 : D Steyn to N Dickwella, OUT! GONE! The Steyn Gun wastes no time in firing away! This isn't a great ball as such, thrown well outside off and fuller in length, Dickwella loosely goes after it and nicks it behind. David Miller behind the sticks today takes a simple catch. He'll be happy his first one is an easy one. Perfect start for the Saffas, an early breakthrough for them.
Kusal Mendis walks in at no.3.
0.3 : D Steyn to K Mendis, A lot of movement away as it lands on a length outside off, Mendis has nothing to do with it.
0.4 : D Steyn to K Mendis, Behind a good length, around off, Mendis hangs on the back foot and offers a firm punch on the off side.
0.5 : D Steyn to K Mendis, Beauty! When he's on fire, there are few better sights in the world. Some good carry for Steyn, this length delivery shoots off the deck and slants away from around off, Kusal Mendis looks to play at it but gets beaten.
0.6 : D Steyn to K Mendis, Beaten again! Excellent first over from Dale Steyn. A wicket-maiden to begin proceedings. He bowls it on a length on off and it goes away again with some extra bounce. Mendis tries to play at it but is beaten once more.
Kagiso Rabada to bowl from the other end.
1.1 : K Rabada to A Fernando, Short of a good length on off stump, Fernando positions himself well behind the line and defends it back down the track.
1.2 : K Rabada to A Fernando, Fraction short in length and a little straighter in line too, Fernando works it straight to the man in front of square leg.
1.3 : K Rabada to A Fernando, SIX! First runs of the innings and it's a maximum. Avishka Fernando goes bang! Slightly fuller in length, on the stumps, Fernando stands his ground and throws his bat at it. Clears long on with ease as he sends it over the fence. Positive start from him.
1.4 : K Rabada to A Fernando, On middle and leg and it's worked past the man at mid-wicket for an easy single.
1.5 : K Rabada to K Mendis, Play and a miss! Almost edged it behind. Rabada pitches it well outside off and Mendis goes after it. Looks to cut but fails to make connection.
1.6 : K Rabada to K Mendis, OUT! Two wickets in as many overs for South Africa. Catching practice for Sipamla at mid on. Full and attacking the stumps, Mendis looks to clear the fielder but doesn't get under the ball at all. Hands a straightforward catch to Sipamla, who takes it by crouching low. Sri Lanka in a spot of bother already, need to get a partnership going. The hosts are carrying on from where they left off in the ODIs.
Kamindu Mendis is the new man in.
2.1 : D Steyn to A Fernando, Good length delivery in the channel outside off, Avishka stays behind and blocks it out.
2.2 : D Steyn to A Fernando, A watchful leave. Steyn keeps it in the corridor of uncertainty and so, the batsman leaves it alone.
2.3 : D Steyn to A Fernando, Full ball on middle and off, angling in slightly, it's wristed towards mid on for nothing.
2.4 : D Steyn to A Fernando, Shortish in line of the stumps, pulled to the deep square leg fielder. A single is collected.
2.5 : D Steyn to K Mendis, In the air for a moment but luckily for the batsman it falls safely. Steyn takes some pace off it as he pitches it full outside off, Kamindu comes forward, checks his drive and plays it in front of Phehlukwayo moving to his left from short cover. A quick run is stolen.
2.6 : D Steyn to A Fernando, SIX! Out of here! Second of the innings for Fernando and Sri Lanka. Slightly short in length, Avishka has no second thoughts about what he's going to do. He sticks on the back foot, swings across the line and clears the mid-wicket fence without any trouble.
3.1 : K Rabada to K Mendis, Bowls a yorker to start the over, Kamindu does well to dig it out and places it towards short mid-wicket.
3.2 : K Rabada to K Mendis, On a full length around off, Kamindu goes for the heave but doesn't connect well and lifts it in the air. The ball goes to mid-wicket where the fielder cuts if off.
3.3 : K Rabada to A Fernando, Fuller on middle, Fernando plays it to mid-on.
3.4 : K Rabada to A Fernando, Pitches on a good length outside off, Fernando drives it to covers and takes off for a single.
3.5 : K Rabada to K Mendis, SIX! Top edge but that has gone all the way! Sri Lanka are dealing in maximums here. Three maximums in the 23 runs they have. This one though is a lucky one. Short and on off, Kamindu looks to drag his pull on the leg side. It takes the top edge and due to the big edges now, it carries over the third man fence.
3.6 : K Rabada to K Mendis, SIX! Consecutive ones! 4 maximums in 29 now. 14 from the over. A much-needed one for Sri Lanka. This one is nicely played. It is short and angling away from the batsman. The lat time he tried to pull it across the line. This time though he waits for it and then upper cuts it over the slip cordon. The pace of Rabada takes it over the fence at the third man region.
4.1 : D Steyn to A Fernando, Fuller length on leg, Avishka just flicks it to mid-wicket for a single.
4.2 : D Steyn to K Mendis, Fires a yorker on the toes, Mendis just manages to keep it away.

4.4 : D Steyn to K Mendis, FOUR! In the air ... safe!! Bowls it slower on off, Kamindu goes for a straight drive but plays it uppishly towards the non-striker who evades it to let it go past. The mid off fielder gives it a chase but could not cut it and the ball races away to the fence.
4.5 : D Steyn to K Mendis, A quick single! Fuller length on off, Mendis punches it towards the cover region and runs for a single.
4.6 : D Steyn to A Fernando, Fernando has played that off the front foot and drives it to the covers. A spirited effort there by van der Dussen to save runs for his team.
Lutho Sipamla into the attack now.
5.1 : L Sipamla to K Mendis, A single to welcome the new bowler! Good length outside off, Kamindu looks to hit it through the covers but it goes off the inner half towards mid off for a quick run.
5.2 : L Sipamla to A Fernando, Bowls a very full ball on the pads. Fernando looks to flick but misses. It hits his pads and rolls towards short fine leg. A leg bye taken.

5.4 : L Sipamla to A Fernando, OUT! In the air... and that has been taken excellently by Reeza Hendricks. The third one down in the Powerplay and not many teams win after losing three in the first six. A budding partnership comes to an end. Fernando goes for another hoick. This time though it is the slower one so he does not get it right off the middle. Goes uppishly towards deep square leg. Reeza there does very well to position himself just ahead of the ropes. He takes it but then realizes the
Angelo Perera will bat next for Sri Lanka.
5.5 : L Sipamla to K Mendis, Uppish but well short! On a length and around off, Mendis pushes at it with hard hands. It is in the air for a while but lands well short of covers.
5.6 : L Sipamla to K Mendis, A wicket and two dots to end! Length and around middle, the batter keeps it out. Just the three runs and a wicket from this one. South Africa's Powerplay. Sri Lanka are 42 for 3 after it.

A direct hit at the striker's end! They have taken is upstairs but Mendis does not seem to be too concerned.
6.1 : I Tahir to A Perera, NOT OUT! Mendis is in! He guides it towards short third man and then the batsmen go for a run. The fielder there hits bull's eye at the striker's end. 11.2 : A Phehlukwayo to A Perera, OUT! Bowled 'em! Andile Phehlukwayo gets his first of the innings. A you-miss-I-hit kind of a situation. Very simple stuff from him. Keeps it on the fuller side and right in line of the stumps, Angelo Perera makes the mistakes of going across the line. Swings his bat, has to connect which he doesn't, and ends up paying the price. Sri Lanka lose another wicket.

This is given a lot of air and it dips around off. Mendis steps out but does not get to the pitch of it. The ball lands and then turns away. Mendis looks to adjust and then hit it with the turn but misses. Miller makes no mistake behind the stumps. Half the side back in the hut and Kamindu who was well set is walking back.

Andile bowls a full ball outside off, Thisara reads it early and goes on with the shot. He connects it with the meat of the bat and the ball goes high and handsome into the stands. Kagiso Rabada is back on.
15.1 : K Rabada to de Silva, Rabada goes down the leg side. Wide signalled by the umpire. Rabada looks unhappy with the decision complains that he heard a edge on that. The replays roll and Rabada was right. Snicko shows a little wood on that.

0.0 : Isuru Udana is the next man in.
18.2 : A Phehlukwayo to de Silva, OUT! BOWLED! Isuru Udana, who made a name for himself in the last 2 ODIs, fails to impress this time. 19.5 : K Rabada to I Udana, Now a wide! Rabada goes short again but this one bounces over the batsman's head. Wided.
K Rabada to I Udana, Another couple! This one too falls in no man's land. Frustrating for Rabada. Slower ball and Udana looks to go downtown. Mistimes it but it goes on the bounce to long off. A couple taken. 11 from the over. A ball to go...
19.6 : K Rabada to I Udana, DROPPED and another couple! This will frustrate Rabada even more. On a length again on middle, Udana once again swings but it again takes the top edge. It goes uppishly towards Tahir at third man. He gets two hands to it but can't hang on. He straightaway apologizes. The batsmen take two and 13 from the last over. SRI LANKA END WITH 134!
As things stand, South Africa will be pleased having won the toss and put the Lankan in to bat. They started off well, having picked up a couple of quick wickets, and then never let any of the batsmen settle. As soon as a partnership was threatening to form, a wicket fell and halted the momentum, bringing the tide back in the hosts' favour. Kamindu Mendis top scored with 41, while none of the rest even got to 20.
The spoils were shared amongst everyone in the South African bowling unit. It was a collective performance, with everyone playing their part. Steyn and Rabada got the early breakthrough, then Sipamla got a wicket of his own, with Tahir terrorizing in the middle overs and Phehlukwayo taking care of business in the fag end. The Saffas will back themselves to chase this down. Let's see how it goes.
