0.0 : Hello and welcome for the 3rd ODI between New Zealand and India. A must-win contest for the home side as the series is on the line. The Men in Blue have been clinical and ruthless in the opening two games, outplaying the Black Caps in all departments. Will want to continue in the same vein today and put in another professional display. New Zealand are yet to show any stomach to fight. Their over-reliance on Kane Williamson is letting them down and the others need to step up to the plate now. A l
TOSS - New Zealand win the toss and elect to bat first!
New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson, says it's a good surface which should play out well and slow down later on. Informs that there is one change as Mitchell Santner comes in for Colin de Grandhomme. States that given the surface, they wanted to play two spinners. Wants his players to bat longer and make full use of all the overs. Mentions that they want to focus on themselves and not worry about anything else. Ends by saying that it's imperative to create pressure with bat and ball and that's
India captain, Virat Kohli, says they would have batted first as well as he feels the surface will get slower and slower as the game progresses. Mentions though he doesn't mind chasing as well. Wants to improve in the middle overs and personally wishes to up the scoring rate himself. Reckons that in the last game they should have got 340, but ended up with 325. Informs that there are two changes - MS Dhoni misses out with a sore hamstring and Dinesh Karthik comes in for him, and the other change
We are ready to begin. Colin Munro and Martin Guptill to start off, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar to take the first new ball. Here we go...

0.4 : B Kumar to C Munro, Fraction straight in line, worked down on the leg side for a single. Munro opens his account as well.
0.5 : B Kumar to M Guptill, Shaping back in on middle and leg, on a good length, Guptill works it towards mid-wicket for a single.
0.6 : B Kumar to C Munro, Full delivery in line of the stumps, Munro pushes it just wide of mid off for a brisk run.

1.2 : M Shami to C Munro, Full ball on the off stump, driven straight to the man at mid off.
1.3 : M Shami to C Munro, FOUR! Takes the aerial route and gets the desired result! The beauty of the Powerplay, clear the infield and find the fence. Back of a length around off, Munro's bat turns in his hands as he swings but it's enough to clear mid off.
1.4 : M Shami to C Munro, Dropped! But a difficult chance for Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps. Good length delivery around off, comes in a touch, Munro hangs his bat out to dry and gets a fat edge. It goes behind, DK dives low to his left but can't hold on. It goes behind and the batsmen take one.
1.5 : M Shami to M Guptill, Served on middle, a length ball, shapes away late with some extra bounce. Guptill is squared up a bit and gets a thick edge down to third man for a run.
1.6 : M Shami to C Munro, OUT! Gone this time! Munro survived a scare just a couple of balls ago, but pays the price this time. Can't make the most of the life given to him. Ahead of a length and outside off, Munro's eyes light up seeing the width. He looks to smash it through the covers but gets an edge to first slip where Rohit Sharma takes a straightforward catch. First breakthrough for India. Also, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson walks in at no.3.
2.1 : B Kumar to M Guptill, Good length delivery in the channel outside off, left alone.
2.2 : B Kumar to M Guptill, Again on a length outside off, dabbed to point with an open face.

2.4 : B Kumar to M Guptill, On the fuller side of things once more, blocked with the full face.
2.5 : B Kumar to M Guptill, Forces this on the off side as Kumar bowls it around off. Not much room to work with.

4.1 : B Kumar to K Williamson, The batsman opens the face of the bat and helps it to third man. The batsmen have run through for a single.
4.2 : B Kumar to M Guptill, SIX! On the pads and Guptill goes big. Full on middle and leg, Guptill takes a step across and just drops it over mid-wicket. Has so much power behind it that the ball sails well over the fence for a biggie.
4.3 : B Kumar to M Guptill, Length ball outside off, it's played back to the bowler from inside the crease.
4.4 : B Kumar to M Guptill, Keeps it out on the off side comfortably.
4.5 : B Kumar to M Guptill, FOUR! Shot. Guptill looking in good rhythm here today. Full and too straight in line once again, the opener flicks it well over mid-wicket and gets a boundary this time. In complete control throughout.
4.6 : B Kumar to M Guptill, This length delivery is forced to mid off. End of a good over for New Zealand, 11 runs off it.
5.1 : M Shami to K Williamson, Cuts back in from a good length, catches Williamson on the pads as he tries to play at it. Too high though, so no appeal.

5.3 : M Shami to K Williamson, Seaming back into the batsman, a length delivery on off, the New Zealand skipper leans across and works it down gently on the leg side.
5.4 : M Shami to K Williamson, FOUR! That's a fine shot. Williamson at his best. All class. It's on a back of a length outside off, Kane rises on his toes and with a vertical bat, crunches it through the gap in the covers to find the fence.
5.5 : M Shami to K Williamson, Behind a good length, around off, the dab to third man is mistimed behind square on the off side.
A run out appeal is taken upstairs. Guptill is the man in question, but he seems to be safe.
5.6 : M Shami to K Williamson, Not out! Back of a length around off, Williamson punches it back from the back foot. Shami gets his fingertips on it, it hits the stumps at the bowler's end and the appeal is taken upstairs as Guptill stepped out for a moment. Replays show he came back inside in time.
6.1 : B Kumar to M Guptill, OUT! Edged and gone! Now both the openers are back in the dressing room. India off to a fine start again with the ball. Bhuvneshwar throws it fuller and outside off, it's there to be hit and Guptill goes for it too, but the slight away movement maybe becomes his undoing. He gets a feather behind and Karthik completes the formalities.

8.2 : B Kumar to K Williamson, The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
8.3 : B Kumar to K Williamson, FOUR! Shot. That's beautiful. Doesn't try to hit it hard at all. All about the timing. Full and straight from Bhuvneshwar, Williamson drives it back down the ground, past mid off and sends it across the boundary line.

9.5 : Y Chahal to R Taylor, Nice shape on it. Looped up on off stump, slight spin away, it's pushed to long off for a run.
9.6 : Y Chahal to K Williamson, FOUR! Absolute quality from Williamson. Finishes the over with a boundary. Chahal once again bowls it slower through the air and slightly shorter in length, Williamson goes with the spin and times the punch through covers to perfection. No stopping that one.

11.5 : Y Chahal to R Taylor, Full outside off, driven through covers for a single.
11.6 : Y Chahal to K Williamson, FOUR! That's terrific. A boundary off the last ball again from Williamson. Spinning away a bit on off, shorter in length, Kane goes back and whips it with the wrists through mid-wicket. Amazing shot.

M Shami to Tom Latham, LEADING EDGE, SAFE! Might say, Shami reacted late. But that is a really tough call. A length ball, around middle, Latham looked to tuck it to the leg side but got a leading edge. Shami was going to his left in his follow-through but the ball came to his right. He tried to change track but it is always difficult for a fast bowler to suddenly do so. Is not quite able to get to it.
22.5 : M Shami to Tom Latham, BRUTE! Is this a Test match? Sharp short ball from Shami and Latham has nowhere to go. The delivery kicks off from leg stump and the southpaw just hangs his bat at it. 25.3 : K Yadav to R Taylor, CHANCE OF A RUN OUT, MIX-UP, BUT SAFE! Ambati Rayudu is at it again. India have been deprived of a wicket. Short and outside off, Taylor cuts it towards backward point. He sets off for a single initially and seeing that, Latham responds. But then Rosco sees Rayudu attacking the ball and stops. Now, Latham is stranded. However, Ambati fumbles and that allows the batsmen to complete the single.

26.5 : H Pandya to R Taylor, FOUR! CLUNK! 50-RUN STAND UP IN 63 BALLS! Good recovery from the Kiwis. Probably now, Taylor has decided to put the foot down. A long hop, outside off, Rosco pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary!

LBW? Hardik reckons he has Taylor right in front. India take a review. Looks plumb. There is a run out appeal as well. One of the Indian fielders says, 'ARRE, DONO OUT HAI!'
28.6 : H Pandya to R Taylor, NOT OUT! UMPIRE'S CALL ON HEIGHT! Lucky escape for Taylor. On a length, around off, Taylor looks to work it to the leg side but misses. Pandya appeals but the umpire stays put. Hardik is busy discussing with his captain regarding the review but in the meanwhile, Latham has charged down halfway for the single. He is sent back and one of the Indian fielders notices that. Has a shy at the bowler's end and scores a direct hit. The run out is checked but replays show that
7th ball of the over? According to us, 6 balls have been done and dusted legally. However, the umpire believes there is one left. Bizarre.

42.3 : B Kumar to D Bracewell, FOUR! It's a boundary but a fine effort from Dhawan in the deep. Was too far away from him, but a fine effort nonetheless. Bracewell lofts it from his crease over cover-point. Shikhar in the deep flies to his left but can't get to it.

44.2 : H Pandya to R Taylor, FOUR! Top edge and over the keeper's head. Taylor moves into the 90s in a streaky manner. Slower one around off, the batsman looks to slog but it goes off the edge and across the fine leg fence for a boundary.

Review. For what exactly? Taylor has gone upstairs after having a chat with his partner. Maybe he thinks the bat hit his pad? I'm not sure, but let's see now...
45.1 : M Shami to R Taylor, OUT! No century for Ross Taylor. How disappointing, but a terrific knock nonetheless, once again. He's stood tall when his team's been under the pump. Length delivery around off, some slight movement away, Taylor looks to run it down but gets an edge behind. Karthik takes it and India celebrate. Rosco, however, takes the DRS as he thinks he hasn't edged it, from the looks of it. And that it's gone off the pad? Anyway, replays roll in and show there is a definite edge.

47.4 : M Shami to Ish Sodhi, Dropped! By Virat Kohli of all people. You don't see that every day. Fuller and slower on the stumps, Sodhi is early into the shot and ends up chipping it high towards long on. The Indian skipper settles under it, but spills it. Two runs taken.

47.6 : M Shami to Ish Sodhi, OUT! Makes amends this time. Cost his side just two runs more. Shami bowls it fuller and slower around off, Sodhi slogs it straight down Kohli's throat at long on. He takes it safely this time.
Trent Boult out now.
48.1 : B Kumar to T Boult, OUT! Bracewell is run out. Quick wickets for India. Will New Zealand even last the full 50 overs? Boult pushes this towards short mid-wicket and Bracewell takes off, when there's no run to be had. Kohli gets to the ball quickly, runs to the stumps and takes the bails off. Easily done.

New Zealand may have their highest score of this series, but it still might not be enough. It's been another good show by India with the ball, especially after being asked to bowl. Rocked the top order early and were right on top. But, Taylor and Latham took things in their side and added 119 runs between them, with the former missing out on a ton and the latter stroking a fifty. Nothing before and nothing after came after them. It was a rather toothless batting display once more.
Everyone chipped in with the wickets, barring Kuldeep and Jadhav, who despite that, remained economical. The start was good, the middle overs saw the runs being choked and except for that phase where Taylor and Latham were striding along, everything was in complete control. Shami led the charge with a 3-fer, while Bhuvneshwar, Chahal and Pandya bagged 2 apiece. The all-rounder did well in his comeback game, having played his last one in September 2018 against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
This should be a relatively straightforward chase for the Indians. Their form in this series so far has no reason to suggest otherwise. However, there is the thing with the wicket slowing down in the second half. The Black Caps do have an extra spinner in the side for that very reason, so if the spin attack gets going, something could happen. Let's see how it unfolds in the run chase.
